This week: 8-11 year olds...
Give your child a treat this summer... a chance to immerse him or herself in a week of nature exploration and learning at the IndiGo Birding Nature Day Camp for Kids! Does your child thrive in small-group settings? Does your child learn better by doing, not watching? Does your child have a fascination with birds, bugs, and the outdoors? Then this might be the camp you are looking for!
Two naturalists will lead a week full of discovery for ten kids at Mt. Gilead Friends Retreat, a 60-acre paradise only a few miles northeast of Bloomington. The property has a beautiful creek, both forest and field habitats, plenty of hiking trails, and a picnic shelter for crafts and lunch. Each day will have an ecological theme, from Predator-Prey Day to Geology Day. Most days will also include a hike, a "bird of the day," creek exploration, a nature-related game, and much, much more!
Naturalist David Rupp has plenty of experience instructing children in a camp setting: A year as the camp naturalist at Amigo Centre in southern Michigan, three years of running nature day camps for the Indianapolis Parks Department, and even time supervising after-school programming for the YMCA in Asheville, NC. Recently David has led the Li'l Hikers outings for Sycamore Land Trust. Now he is using this experience to design a camp that will feel like heaven for that nature-loving child
